This is the commercial Fat Yak Pale Ale description from BeerBrewGuru...

Brand:Fat Yak
Brewer: Matilda Bay Brewing Company
Type: Ale
Style: Pale Ale
Region: South East Australia
Alcohol/vol(ABV): 4.7%

Brewers Description: Fat Yak first impresses with its golden colour, distinctive, hop driven, fruity and herbaceous aromas, giving characteristic passionfruit and melon notes, followed by a whack of hop flavour at the finish. The taste is refreshingly clean on the palate. Fat Yak is engineered in the Garage Brewery from natural ingredients, including premium malts, American Cascade hops and a hint of New Zealand Nelson Sauvin hops. Enjoy!

Brew 46- Pretty Good for a Can+

The notes, mmm the notes! This beer has turned out to be fantastic. Cold Filtered, clarity wasn't too bad BUT the Young Bucks like clear beer! Kegged, gassed (through the outlet valve/post), shaken not stirred and look'n mighty fine!!!

Brew 48- Kolsch temperature adjusted up... slightly!

Tuesday 9 April 2013

Brew 46- Young Bucks Kegging/Kolsch popping!

Know your target market! The 150 Lashes 'look-a-like' is ready after an appropriate lagering/resting stage in the fridge. WE can't resist the urge to add just a wee more Cascade hops (only 10gms) as a LATE hopping! So it(hops), in a beer sock got thrown in the keg, gassed and refrigerated ready for a final filter and re-kegging tomorrow.
The Young Bucks will be consuming the 150 Lashes from Friday night...

Brew 48- The Kolsch is sitting in a fridge on a 13C thermostat setting fermenting slowly, just the way we like it... right!

Green Beer Brewing- NOT Brewing Green Beer?

We will remember St. Patrick's Day 2013 as the day we completed our GREEN Beer Brewing.
Together with Solar Power & Rainwater Harvesting Humpback Brewing has switched to LED lighting throughout the Brewery!

Like our beer LED's last for decades, save electricity, taste really great, offer extra features, and unlike our Beer their prices are plummeting!

Craft Beer is the perfect platform to show that by making small sacrifices now you will be rewarded later.

The Coromandel Brewing Company's Easy Rider

HELP US... we are stuck, needing more info. on your Easy Rider. Please. It's a bit of a mystery, and we can't sleep, eat or drink beer until we know... flavours, hops and...

Massive expectations of this tasting! Directorè Dick has returned to Australia from The Coromandel(NZ) with 2 bottles of The Coromandel Brewing Company's Easy Rider. We had found that the search for the BEST NZ has to offer in Craft Beer more difficult than expected. Of course there is the McCashin Family(Stoke), Tuatara and others! However like Australia, beer taps are still overrun by big(*purposefully in small case), bland beers from Steinlager(Lion Nathan), Lion Red(Lion Nathan), Mac's Gold(Lion Nathan)- see a trend here?
Back to Dick(*SHORT for DirectorÄ— Dick) & The Coromandel!
Now there is no end to our commitment to R&D, no country too far, no beer too dear! Dick grabbed a lofty lob wedge at the golf club at Matarangi in the Waikato and an 'Easy Rider'. It was love at first swallow as he attempted to hit his way out of the pit of sand! He didn't want to but his plane would not wait and he had to miss the Friday night beer and BBQ to raise money for the Firies and a meeting with the brewer. Forsaking the DF on his way back to Australia he packed 2 bots of 'Easy Rider' in the bag.
So again I say 'Massive expectations of this tasting'!

What we say...
3 N's- Nice bottle, nice label and the top popped... nice!
But wait there's more!
mmm mouthfeel, love the mouth feel! VERY balanced taste, slightly honey or is it?????. We had to work hard to 'chunk' the tastes associated with this very finely crafted beer. We regularly use NZ Hops but this was a new taste. We settled on a soft, not overly ripe Apricot, a touch of mild honey with subtle, lite grapefruit finish that cleaned the mouth and left a NEED for more. Luck we got 2 bottles and we share without a fight?

What they say...
‘Easy Rider’ (A pale ale)
This light, golden coloured ale has a gentle malt influence and is mildly fruity from the use of fantastic New Zealand grown hops and our special strain of yeast.
Pouring notes: Gently pour the contents into a 500 ml glass leaving the natural yeast sediment at the bottom of the bottle.
5.0% ABV

Brew 42 Czech Pilsner

There's some secrets to a GREAT Pilsner... Brew Slow and Low, Larger Low and Slow, drink ... now you know!
  • Kegged Brew 41- filtered and now chill'n.
  • Pitched yeast in Brew 42- 'Bubble Le Brew'!

Friday 25 January 2013

A VERY clean Yak!

We needed to transport the Fat Yaks, while still in the fermenters just prior to kegging! So as a precaution we Cold Filtered the brews to remove any sediment. All good. Regassed and rechilled! Ready to drink. GREAT Australian drinking weather this summer!!!

Dick Fixed It!

Leaking Keg... Bugger! Fixed a faulty black out valve on the keg, cleaned the bottom of the keezer. Loaded the new Czech Pilsner brew to be fermented in the keezer, set new thermostat @ 12C. Brewery barn door hing came off so also fixed that so that the brewery is still locked and loaded.
